No public comment.
Snedeker Road repair was brought the the Board. Griffes has been in contact with the Ingham County Road Department due to residents’ calls about how bad the road has deteriorated from all the spring rain. The decision was made to go ahead and have the Ingham County Road Department do the repairs. They will be adding 2 culverts and 300 tons of gravel to repair the road. An amended agreement will be signed and sent back to the County. Diederich commented on the ditches and how the water flows out which causes this to happen every year.
Mowers fuel surcharge was discussed by the Board. With gas prices spiking all contracted mowers for the Township will be compensated accordingly. Griffes proposed that the Township mowers should be $20 for $5 a gallon and $10 for $4 a gallon, the Cemetery mowers should be $30 for $5 a gallon and $15 for $4 a gallon and the Park mowers should be $50 for $5 a gallon and $25 for $4 a gallon. When the prices come back down to $3 a gallon, they will not get compensation. Griffes was also pleased with Lawn Crafters’ work at the Township and said they were doing a great job and the Board agreed. A motion by Diederich to accept the fuel surcharge as presented and seconded by Benjamin. Roll call vote: Griffes-Yes, Benjamin-Yes, Ream-Yes, Diederich-Yes and Whitehead-Yes. Motion passed.
Cemetery backhoe fee was brought to the Board. Ed Fuller the cemetery sexton was asking for an extra $50 charge to run the backhoe for burials. Benjamin questioned the price from the paylist presented. Further discussion about the pricing with the Sexton is the next step and then it will be brought back to the Board at the next meeting.
Cemetery building siding was discussed. Griffes is willing to do the siding for the building for $1000 with cost of materials. Benjamin moved to have Griffes do the cemetery building siding and seconded by Diederich. 5-Ayes and 0-Nays.
Simmions Memorial Park mowing contract was discussed. The contractor from last year stepped down as the mowers. Griffes contacted Carson’s Services to do the job for the season at $300 a mow. Diederich motioned to contract with Carson’s Services to do the mowing for Simmon Memorial Park and seconded by Ream. This was budgeted at the March organizational meeting, so no roll call vote needed.
West properties were discussed. The Township is trying to figure out a date to have the meeting with the Village of Webberville for the expansion of the Village. This will be taken to the Planning Commission for further discussion.
NIESA meeting minutes for April 9, 2026, were brought to the Board by Diederich. The meeting went smoothly at first said Diederich, but accusations are being made about NIESA’s bookkeeping. Ms. Schoenborn, NIESA Board Treasurer, provides documentation of all financial information from NIESA and they bring it to the Board. Mr. Hansen was asking the Board to consider adopting a Political Conflict of Interest Disclosure form to ensure transparency and avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. The attorneys are reviewing NIESA’s Principle of Governance/Conduct Code Form. NIESA is looking to unionize the department. NIESA is now recording and giving access to the recordings of all future meetings due to people saying that the minutes are not accurate and things being said are not true. There is a position available for a 4-year term, and a new member will be appointed at the June 11th meeting.
Payment of bills was presented to the Board. Motioned by Ream and seconded by Benjamin to pay the bills as presented. Roll call vote: Griffes-Yes, Benjamin-Yes, Ream-Yes, Diederich-Yes and Whitehead-Yes. Motion passed.
No correspondence.
Griffes declared the meeting adjourned at 6:52 pm.
